Product Description

French Grey is a soft, warm-leaning grey engineered European oak floor, available in 2mm or 3mm veneer over a 14mm engineered core. It suits modern, pared-back interiors that want a contemporary alternative to traditional honey or brown oak tones.

French Grey engineered oak flooring is a genuine European oak veneer (choose 2mm or 3mm) over a 14mm engineered core, supplied in 1900mm boards. European oak has a Janka hardness rating of approximately 6.0 kN, softer than the Australian native species in our range but a well-established, proven flooring timber across Europe for centuries.

Note: if you're searching for "French Oak" flooring specifically - that's a different product to French Grey. French Oak refers to European oak sourced from French forests as a species/origin descriptor; French Grey is a colour applied to our European oak veneer. If you want French-origin oak specifically, ask our team to confirm sourcing before ordering.

What does French Grey look like in a room?

A soft, warm-leaning grey - contemporary enough to suit a monochrome or black-fixture interior, warm enough to avoid feeling cold or clinical. It works well against black or brushed nickel hardware and dark joinery.

Key specs at a glance

  • Genuine European oak veneer, 2mm or 3mm, over a 14mm engineered core
  • 1900mm board length
  • Janka hardness (European oak): approximately 6.0 kN
  • Soft, warm-leaning grey tone
  • Engineered construction for dimensional stability through seasonal humidity changes

Should I choose 2mm or 3mm veneer?

Choose 3mm if you expect to sand and refinish the floor over its lifetime - the thicker face layer allows for more resurfacing cycles. Choose 2mm if budget is the main driver and you're not planning to refinish.

Available as supply-only or supply-and-install. If you'd like to compare it against a warmer tone, see our Warm Chestnut or Latte engineered oak flooring, browse the full Engineered European Oak range, or ask us about professional installation.

FAQ

What veneer thickness does French Grey come in?

2mm or 3mm, both over a 14mm engineered core.

Is French Grey a warm or cool grey?

It's a warm-leaning grey, designed to soften a modern interior rather than feel stark or cold.

Is French Grey the same as French Oak flooring?

No - French Grey is a colour applied to our European oak veneer; French Oak refers to the timber's country of origin. Ask our team to confirm sourcing if origin matters to you.
