Blackbutt Herringbone Hybrid Flooring is a 100% waterproof SPC hybrid floor with a 0.5mm wear layer, a matte finish and 1.5mm IXPE acoustic underlay attached. Blackbutt Herringbone brings the warm, light blackbutt-style tone to a herringbone layout, which suits hallways, entries and living rooms where you want the floor to be a feature. Herringbone hybrid gives you the parquetry look without the cost or the moisture limitations of timber parquetry. Each 640 x 128mm block is 8.5mm thick with a 0.5mm wear layer and bonded acoustic underlay, and the boards click together in the classic zig-zag pattern.

What you get with the 8.5mm herringbone range

• 100% waterproof core. The stone-polymer composite (SPC) core does not swell or warp when wet, so this floor can run through kitchens, bathrooms and laundries as well as living areas.
• 0.5mm wear layer, matte finish. The wear layer is the clear top coat that takes the scratches; 0.5mm is rated for busy family homes and light commercial use.
• Underlay already attached. 1.5mm IXPE acoustic underlay is bonded to each board, so there is no separate underlay to buy or lay.
• Välinge 2G click system. Boards lock together and float over the subfloor, with no glue or nails.
• 640 x 128 x 8.5mm boards, micro-bevel edge. The small-format blocks lay in a true herringbone pattern.
• Low emissions. E1 (formaldehyde free).
• Warranty. 30 years domestic, 15 years light commercial.

Where it works

Because the core is waterproof, Blackbutt 8.5mm herringbone hybrid suits whole-of-home installs where the same floor runs from the entry through the kitchen and into wet areas, which is hard to do with timber or laminate. It floats over concrete slabs, existing tiles and timber subfloors provided the surface is flat, dry and sound, which makes it a common choice for renovations where lifting the old floor is not an option. It is also a practical floor for households with pets and children: the surface wipes clean and the attached underlay keeps footfall quiet.

Frequently asked questions

Is Blackbutt hybrid flooring waterproof?

Yes. The SPC core is 100% waterproof, so it can be installed in bathrooms, laundries and kitchens. Standing water should still be wiped up, as with any floor, to protect the joins and the subfloor beneath.

What does a 0.5mm wear layer mean?

The wear layer is the clear protective top coat. A 0.5mm wear layer is rated for residential and light commercial traffic. Thicker wear layers resist scratching for longer.

Do I need to buy underlay separately?

No. 1.5mm IXPE acoustic underlay is already bonded to the back of every board, which also improves sound absorption.

Can it be installed over my existing floor?

In most cases yes. Hybrid flooring floats over concrete, tiles and timber subfloors as long as they are flat, dry and structurally sound. Carpet must be removed. Our installers will check your subfloor before quoting.

How much does one box cover?

Approximately 0.983m² per box. We recommend ordering around 10% more than your measured floor area to cover cuts and offcuts.

Is herringbone hybrid harder to install than plank hybrid?

It takes more care to set out and there is more cutting at the edges, so allow extra time and slightly more waste. Many customers choose supply and install for herringbone for that reason.
